Ancient civilisations (ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Indians, Mayans) considered bees to be sacred and revered them as divine messengers. It was the Greek philosopher Aristotle who wrote the first scientific book on beekeeping.
Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein claimed that if bees disappear, humans will disappear in four years. No bees mean no pollination, leading to no food – and therefore no people.
This year’s United Nations motto is “Bee Engaged”; our lacemakers engaged with their laceworks featuring the technique of the honeycomb – the symbol of another bee product.
