The main motifs of this year’s exhibition are here and beyond, the material and the spiritual. Even more, laceworks are metaphors for the images they prompt in us. These further enrich us and give us meaning. They also encouraged the thoughts and emotions of the lacemakers who poured all their sensitivity into lace so that it can speak to you, dear visitor, too. Among the many metaphors reflected in lace, love, warm-heartedness, courage, wisdom, hope, and dedication – the images of the heart and the angel – are the most prominent ones. These are also the values characterising our compatriot, Metropolitan and Gorizia bishop Dr Frančišek B. Sedej, a fearless fighter for the rights of the Slovenian people. He was a bright image of that dark era and a metaphor for the brightest light.
