On the slope not far from the town centre stands one of the last typical Idrija miner’s houses that have shaped the image and reflected the working character of Idrija. Its height, white façade, numerous windows, and fenced garden give it a magnificent appearance, but the furnished miners’ apartment from early 20th century bears witness to the modesty of its former inhabitants. Stories from mining history will come to life during your visit in the company of a guide who will welcome you, tell you how to make the best Idrija žlikrofi, and share secrets from the everyday life of traditional mining families. The more curious of you will also be able to try playing the Volkalca game or dominoes and chat with the lacemakers.
During the festival, on Saturday and Sunday, open according to schedule, while on all other days guided tours are available by appointment with the reception at Gewerkenegg Castle.
