The 44th Idrija Lace Festival will take place from 19 to 21 June 2026. This year marks an exceptional anniversary – 150 years of the Idrija Lace School, which is why the festival’s opening ceremony will be a special artistic tribute to this distinguished milestone.
The jubilee symbolizes the uninterrupted transfer of knowledge, skills, and love for bobbin lace-making from generation to generation. It is a unique heritage that in Idrija we do not merely preserve, but actively live, develop, and pass on to future generations.
The festival will be a celebration of heritage, creativity, and community, as well as a tribute to the great cultural wealth represented by Idrija lace – an intangible cultural heritage of global significance. The story of lace is a story of patience, precision, and human connection, sustained for a century and a half to ensure that this knowledge does not fade away, but continues to grow.
During the festival, 10 innovative exhibitions will be on display, accompanied by a rich professional programme, bobbin lace-making workshops, and lace-making demonstrations by children and adult lacemakers throughout the town. One of the highlights of the festival will undoubtedly be the national bobbin lace-making competition for the Ivanka Ferjančič Award.
Visitors will also enjoy a fair of local and artistic crafts and lace-making tools, the Huda Kuhna with a diverse culinary offer, the Sweet Corner, children’s activities, a children’s theatre performance, dance shows, guided tours of the town, and many other festival events.
On Saturday, the main stage at the Town Square will host performances by Šank Rock, Elvis Jackson, and AnzaRa Mai & Greg Even. On Sunday, the small stage at St Acacius Square will feature a performance by the Avsenik House Ensemble.
The Idrija Lace Festival proves that tradition, creativity, and cooperation create unforgettable experiences.
